Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY—Nationally No. 14-ranked Cortland (22-4/8-0) pounded out 29 hits in a pair of six-inning games today, sweeping host Buffalo State (11-9/4-4), 12-4 and 15-7, in a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field.

Cortland jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a third-inning grand slam in the first game.  Buffalo State answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit with a rally that included a two-run single by Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield).  The Red Dragons had too much fire power, however, and put the game out of reach with two runs in the fourth, four more in the fifth and a final run in the sixth.  Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) went 2 for 3 with a double, and Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) finished 2 for 2 for the Bengals.  Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) was saddled with the first loss of her collegiate career, giving up 14 hits and 10 earned runs to go with three strikeouts.

Buffalo State rallied twice to even the score in the second game, but Cortland erupted to score eight runs on six hits, including Meaghan Kohler's second grand slam of the day, in the sixth inning.  The Bengals fell behind 5-1 early, but plated a pair of runs in the third and scored two more in the fourth to even the score at 5-5.  The Red Dragons pushed ahead 7-5 in the fifth, but Buffalo State answered again in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI double by Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster), before Cortland pulled away for good.  Goff finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.  Lekki was also 2 for 3 with a double and two runs.

A great turnout of former players was on hand for a pregame ceremony to remember Buffalo State head coach Sandy Hollander.  Sandy's son Alex threw out the ceremonial opening pitch.

Buffalo State will host a non-conference doubleheader against Allegheny on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
