CORTLAND, NY—
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) and
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/Cicero-N. Syracuse) teamed up to score nine of the Bengals 11 goals, but it wasn't enough as No. 2 Cortland (10-1/3-0) turned it on in the second half to defeat Buffalo State (8-4/1-2), 22-11, in a SUNYAC game this afternoon.
Shaddock paced the Bengals with five goals. Caporizzo netted four goals, while
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) tallied a goal and an assist.
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) finished with a single tally.
The Red Dragons recorded the first three goals of the game before Buffalo State tied things midway through the first half at 3-3. Cortland held a slim 10-8 advantage at halftime, but outscored the Bengals, 12-3, in second period, including scoring six unanswered early in the stanza, to come away with the win.
Cortland outshot the Bengals, 34-24, and held an 18-15 advantage in ground balls. Adi DiDuro (Geneva/Geneva) and
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) combined to record five saves for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State will return home to host Fredonia on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
