Box Score CORTLAND, NY—Five different Bengals found the back of the net as Buffalo State (1-0/1-0) skated to a 5-4 victory in a season-opening SUNYAC game tonight at Cortland (0-1/0-1)

The Bengals never trailed and enjoyed three separate two goal leads and held on for the victory. Billy Strakosch (Middlebury, VT/Pomperaug Regional) opened the scoring for Buffalo State just 20 seconds into the game, and Dan Turgeon (Centennial, CO/Cherokee Trail) pushed the lead to 2-0 later in the opening frame.

Cortland responded with back-to-back markers to even the score at 2-2, but the Bengals regained the two-goal advantage early in the third period after goals from Ryan Salkeld (Suffolk, VA/Churchland) and Ben Kramer (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck South). Cortland scored a second power-play goal minutes later, but Adam Rossi (Surrey, BC/Burnsview) put Buffalo State up 5-3 with less than 10 minutes remaining.

The Red Dragons added a shorthanded goal with less than a minute remaining, but the Bengals were able to hold on for the victory.

Cortland finished with a 33-20 edge in shots on goal. Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) made 29 stops for Buffalo State.

The Bengals will play another SUNYAC contest tomorrow at Oswego at 7 p.m.
