Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) made 43 saves and Buffalo State (3-2-1/3-2-1) netted a third-period goal to skate to a 1-1 tie with No. 1-ranked team in the nation in the D3Hockey.com national poll Plattsburgh (4-0-1/4-0-1) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Ice Arena.

The Cardinals opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game, and neither team would score again until the Bengals' netted the equalizer in the opening minutes of the third period. Senior Kyle Whipple (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) froze a Cardinal defender one-on-one and then ripped a wrist shot into the upper corner for his second of the season with an assist from Billy Strakosch (Middlebury, VT/Pomperaug Regional).

Both teams had chances with the man advantage in overtime, with one power play for the Bengals and two for the Cardinals in the extra session. Neither team could produce the game-winner, however, although Plattsburgh thought it had won the game with 11 seconds remaining in overtime. The Cardinals pushed the puck across the line in a goal-mouth scramble, but it was after the whistle blew with the puck under Carr.

Buffalo State finished 0 for 7 on the power play, and the Cardinals were 0 for 8 with the extra attacker. Plattsburgh finished with a 44-25 edge in shots, but Carr stopped all but one Cardinal shot, including kicking aside all six he faced in overtime.

Buffalo State will next host Fredonia in another SUNYAC game next Friday at 7 p.m.
