BUFFALO, NY—No. 9 Plattsburgh State (14-5-1/9-1-1) took a two-goal into the third period and held off Buffalo State (9-10-2/4-7-1), winning 3-2 in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Ice Arena.

Mac Balson (Lakefield, ON/Adam Scott CVI) and Shane Avery (Fort Covington, NY/Salmon River) scored for the Bengals.  Cory Gurski (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Billy Strakosch (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) had one assist apiece.

The Cardinals opened the scoring midway through the first stanza, but Buffalo State took advantage of a miscue in front of the Plattsburgh State net, as Balson recorded his fifth of the season.  The Cardinals added another goal later in the first and scored their third of the game at 11:35 of the second to take a 3-1 lead into intermission.  Avery gave the Bengals life late in the third, tallying an unassisted goal at 14:37, but Buffalo State was unable to find the equalizer.

Plattsburgh State held a 31-26 advantage in shots and finished 1 for 5 on the power play, while Buffalo State was 0 for 2 with the extra skater.  Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) stopped 28 shots in the loss.

The Bengals will host Potsdam at the Ice Arena tomorrow at 7 p.m.
