Women’s Basketball Outlasts Fredonia in Overtime, 68-64, Strengthens Playoff Hopes

Box Score FREDONIA, NY—Seven Bengals scored seven or more points as Buffalo State (12-11/8-8) kept itself in the thick of the SUNYAC playoff race with a 68-64 overtime victory tonight over host Fredonia (11-11/6-10).

Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) led the Bengals with 13 points, including hitting three 3-pointers.  Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) added 12 points and five rebounds, and Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) had 10 points and five boards off the bench.  Shay Jackson (Syracuse/Henninger) chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.

Both teams struggle to find their range in the opening 20 minutes as Buffalo State took a 19-15 lead into the intermission.  The Bengals were still clinging to a six-point lead with less than four minutes remaining, but Fredonia battled back and hit 1 of 2 free throws with seven seconds remaining to even the score at 56-56 and force overtime. 

Buffalo State scored the first five points of the extra session, but Fredonia cut the deficit to 65-64 with 32 seconds left.  Crawford hit 3 of 4 free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win. 

Buffalo State's bench outscored Fredonia's reserves, 32-9.  The Bengals shot 40-percent from the field, and shot just 14 of 25 at the charity stripe.  Fredonia hit 36-percent from the field and was 21 of 31 at the line. 

Buffalo State will play its final regular season home game this Friday at 6 p.m. against Brockport.
