BUFFALO, NY—Shane Avery (Fort Covington, NY/Salmon River) netted the game winner on the power play midway through the second period to help Buffalo State (12-11-2/7-8-1) to a 4-2 win over visiting Fredonia (7-15-3/5-9-2) in the SUNYAC regular season finale tonight at the Ice Arena.

Matt Bessing (Elma, NY/Cheektowaga), Nick Melligan (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Mac Balson (Lakefield, ON/Adam Scott CVI) also scored for the Bengals.  Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/Blenheim) chipped in a pair of assists.  Drew Klin (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Cory Gurski (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Ben Kramer (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck South) had one assist apiece.

Buffalo State scored at 3:22 and 15:10 of the first period, before Fredonia cut the lead in half just before intermission.  The Blue Devils recorded a power-play goal early in the second to tie the game, before Avery netted his eighth of the season to regain the lead for the Bengals.  Buffalo State added an insurance marker in the final stanza to secure the win.

The Bengals held a 29-21 advantage in shots and Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) stopped 19 shots between the pipes for his 12th win of the season.

With the win, Buffalo State secured the No. 4 spot in the league standings and will host fifth-seeded Fredonia in a quarterfinal round game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
