Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State opened its season with 19 hits in two games, making short work of Framingham State (0-9) in the opener, winning 8-0 in five innings, before bowing to Bowdoin (11-5) 8-7 in the second game today at the US National Training Center.

The Bengals maximized eight hits in the opening game, erupting for three runs in the first inning and five more in the third race to the abbreviated victory.  Carly Knight (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base to lead Buffalo State's bats.  Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was 1 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, while Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) recorded a triple, a stolen base and two runs scored. Kate Brownell (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) had a double and an RBI, and Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) added a triple and a run scored.

Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) and Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) combined to pitch the four hit shutout.  Coneys worked three innings, allowing two hits and struck out two.  Tilkins tossed the final two innings in relief, also giving up just two hits with a pair of strike outs. 

A three-run seventh inning by Bowdoin sunk Buffalo State in the late game.  After the Polar Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Bengals responded with a four-run first of its own to push ahead.  Bowdoin scored twice more in the second, but Buffalo State took a 6-5 lead into the final frame.  Bowdoin pushed three runs across on just two hits in the final frame.  The Bengals added one run on a no-out RBI double by Novo, but she was left stranded after three consecutive strikeouts to end the game.

Novo led the Bengals' bats that produced 11 hits, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.  Fenski was 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.  Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) went 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) added a home run and two RBIs.

Kelsi Leo (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) made her first collegiate start in the circle, giving up seven hits and five runs in just one inning of work.  Coneys pitched the final six innings and took the loss, allowing three hits and three runs.

Buffalo State will play against Wisconsin-Whitewater and Western Connecticut State tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.
