Softball Blanked by Whitewater, Bounces Back Against West Conn

Sam Tilkins pitched five no-hit innings of relief to earn the win against Western Connecticut State
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.—Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-0) dealt Buffalo State (2-2) a 3-0 loss, but the Bengals rebounded to post a 5-3 victory over Western Connecticut State (0-4) in the second game today at the US National Training Center.

In the opening game, Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) scattered seven hits and struck out five Warhawks while allowing three runs.  Buffalo Sate managed just three hits and could not plate a single run, stranding eight base runners.  The Bengals loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, but did not score.  Buffalo State left the bases loaded again in the sixth inning.  Kate Brownell (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) reach base in all three plate appearances with a single and was hit by pitch twice.

After scoring two runs in the first inning of the second game, West Conn answered to lead briefly 3-2 in the second inning.  Buffalo State responded with a run in the bottom of the second to even the score and then scored again in the third and sixth innings, plating a total of five runs on just six hits by six different players.  Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, and Jean Stahl (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) had a pinch hit double and a run scored.

Kelsi Leo (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) started the game in the circle, but was replaced after two innings, allowing two hits and three runs.  Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) threw five innings of no-hit relief to earn the win.

Buffalo State will enjoy a day off in Florida tomorrow and will return to action on Monday against MIT at 9 a.m. and Fontbonne at 11 a.m.
