Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (4-4) committed five errors that led to a 7-3 loss against No. 7-ranked Luther in the early game, but held on to salvage a split with a wild 9-8 win over the University of Chicago (4-2) today at the US National Training Center.

Carly Knight (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) hit a two-run triple in the second inning to open the scoring, but Luther capitalized a series of Bengals' defensive miscues to take a 4-2 lead through four innings. After the Bengals cut the deficit to one, Luther sealed the win with a three-run sixth inning.  The Bengals managed just four hits by four different players, compared to eight by Luther.

Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) added an RBI single for Buffalo State, and Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) took the loss in the circle, scattering eight hits and allowing four earned runs to go with five strikeouts.

Sloppy defense continued in the second game, with the two teams combining to commit 11 errors, including seven by Chicago.  Buffalo State was outhit 13-6, but survived a late rally to hold on for the win.  The Maroons took an early 2-0 lead, but Buffalo State exploded for four runs in the third and then scored five more over the next three innings to take a 9-4 lead into the final frame.  Chicago plated four runs, but stranded the tying runner on third base to end the game.

Freshman Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) was 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored.  Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) had a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Sarah Gorski (Cheektowaga/Depew) also had a double and two runs scored. 

Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) earned the win in the circle, before Coneys came in to get the final batter ground out to end the game.

Buffalo State will conclude its Florida stay tomorrow against Union at 9 a.m. and Elmhurst at 11 a.m.
