Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (5-7/0-2) outhit visiting New Paltz (9-4/2-0) in both halves of today's SUNYAC opening doubleheader, but came out on the short end in each game, falling 3-1 and 6-5.

Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) suffered the hard-luck loss in the opener, scattering five hits with four strikeouts.  Buffalo State had seven hits, but was unable to assemble a rally.  New Paltz converted a pair of hitter batters into two runs in the third inning, and added an insurance marker in the seventh. 

Buffalo State scored its only run on a two-out RBI single by Brieanna Brink (Kenmore/Sacred Heart) in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) then singled to put the tying run on base, but a ground out ended the game.  Brink finished 2 for 2 with a stolen base, and was the only Bengal with multiple hits.

Buffalo State held a 10-9 edge in hits in the late game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  The Hawks capitalized on three hits and an error to plate two runs in the fourth inning and then scored four runs on just three hits in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.  Buffalo State closed the gap to 6-5 with three consecutive RBI-hits in the sixth inning.  The Bengals put the tying runner on base, reaching on a throwing error to lead off the bottom of the last, but could not advance her past second base. 

Novo finished 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, and Brink was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run.  Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and run, and Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) had a single and an RBI.

Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) took the loss, throwing 4 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs.  Freshman Kelsi Leo (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless one-hit relief.

Buffalo State will host another SUNYAC doubleheader tomorrow against Oneonta at noon.
