Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Buffalo State (7-6/2-3) dominated time of possession and outshot nationally-ranked No. 4 Cortland (12-1/5-0), 24-17, but came out on the wrong end of an 8-3 decision in a SUNYAC game today at Coyer Field.
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) scored two of Buffalo State's goals, while
Sarah Kirchberger (Buffalo/W. Seneca West) netted the other, and
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) picked up two assists.
The Bengals jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and after three-consecutive goals by Cortland, responded to even the score at 3-3 with five minutes remaining in the first half. Cortland would score five unanswered goals to close the game, however, including the only three tallies of the second half.
Buffalo State in several statistical categories, but goalkeeper saves proved to be the difference, with Cortland's netminder recording 11, and Buffalo State's
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) and
Adelena DiDuro (Geneva/Geneva) combining for five. The Bengals also rang several shots off the post.
Buffalo State held a 21-16 advantage in ground balls and forced 22 Cortland turnovers, while committing just 15.
Buffalo State will visit Fredonia for another SUNYAC game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
