Softball Drops a Pair to Geneseo

Stephanie Novo hit a solo home run in the first inning of the opening game
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (12-16/6-8) collected just seven hits en route to dropping both halves of a SUNYAC doubleheader today, falling to visiting Geneseo (17-13/10-4), 5-3 and 3-0.

After trading solo homers in the first inning of the opening game, Buffalo State took a 3-1 lead in the third inning after RBIs by Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) and Carly Knight (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter).  The Bengals held the lead until the sixth inning, but Geneseo hit a pair of two-run doubles, one to even the score in the sixth, and another to pull ahead in the seventh.

Novo was the lone Bengal with multiple hits, finishing 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) was in the circle for the loss, allowing eight hits and four earned runs with six strikeouts.

The Bengals managed just three hits in the night cap and did not advance a runner past first base after the first inning.  Geneseo belted solo homers in the first and seventh, and added a run on an RBI double in the third. 

Kelsi Leo (Niagara Falls, Niagara Falls) suffered the loss, throwing 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.  Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) was effective in relief, throwing 4 1/3 innings, giving up just two hits and one run to go with a pair of strikeouts.

Buffalo State will play a non-conference doubleheader at Nazareth on Wednesday.
