Box Score 2 OSWEGO, NY—Buffalo State (8-7/3-2) dropped host Oswego (4-9/1-2) 10-4 in the opening game and won 14-10 in the late game. The nightcap was halted because of darkness after five innings, and the SUNYAC office offically announced the game was regulation and final on Monday.
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) went 4 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored, and
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to pace the Bengals in the opening game.
Carly Knight (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) finished 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored.
The game was tied at 2-2 after the first inning, but the Bengals scored the next eight runs before the Lakers plated the final two run in the bottom of the seventh. Buffalo State finished with 11 hits and Oswego committed four errors. The Lakers finished with six hits.
Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) picked up her fifth win of the season, tossing five innings, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out six.
Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on two hits to go with four strikeouts.
The Bengals continued to produce runs in bunches in the late game. After falling behind 4-2 through the opening frame, Buffalo State responded with a four-run second. Oswego tied the score at 8-8, but the Bengals added three more runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to pull away before the game was suspended after just five innings because of darkness. The Bengals belted 11 more hits and took advantage of six Oswego errors.
Fenski was 3 for 4 with a homer, three RBIs and three runs scored, and Knight finished 3 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and four runs.
Kate Brownell (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and
Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) added a pair of RBIs.
Knight made her first appearance in the circle, working 3 1/3 innings, giving up eight earned runs on seven hits in a no decision. Tilkins threw the final 1 2/3 innings, and earned the win, allowing four hits and two runs.
The game was halted prior to the start of the sixth inning.
Buffalo State will visit Cortland for another SUNYAC twin bill tomorrow at noon.
