Women’s Volleyball Falls to New Paltz

BROCKPORT, NY—Buffalo State (14-8/1-3) was unable to repeat the magic of its last meeting with New Paltz (18-4/4-0) when captured its first-ever SUNYAC Championship last season, as the Hawks swept the Bengals tonight at Brockport to open the second round of SUNYAC Pool Play.

Buffalo State got stronger as the match went on today, but it was not enough, as the Hawks prevailed 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22.  The Bengals entered the match averaging more than two blocks-per-set, but finished with just two blocks in the entire match.  Buffalo State also finished with a negative attack percentage for the first time all season.

Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) led Buffalo State's offense with seven kills.  Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) had 20 assists, and Rachelle Kelchlin (W. Seneca/St. Mary's) posted a team-high 13 digs.

Buffalo State will play two more SUNYAC matches at Brockport tomorrow, squaring off against Plattsburgh at 10 a.m. before facing the host Golden Eagles at 12:30 p.m.
