Chapple’s Late Goal Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Oswego, 2-1; DeMarsh Earns 100th Win

BUFFALO, NY— Megan Chapple (Utica/Whitesboro) scored with 38 seconds remaining to give Buffalo State (5-6-2/2-3) a 2-1 victory over visiting Oswego (5-5-3/2-1-3) in a SUNYAC game today at Coyer Field.  The victory marked the 100th career win for Buffalo State head coach Nicholas DeMarsh.

Buffalo State weathered some early pressure by Oswego, and then gained momentum when Gabrianna Boldinski (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) headed home her first goal of the season off a ball served from a corner kick by Breanna Knight (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South).  The Bengals nearly pushed the lead to 2-0 just minutes later when Meghan Allen (Big Flats/Corning East) took a nice feed from Victoria Colotti (New Windsor/Newburgh Free), but fired a shot wide of the right post.

The Lakers finally broke through to even the score in the 69th minute.  Buffalo State's physical play finally caught up with them, as its 15th foul of the game set up a penalty kick, and Sarah Grupp slid the ball inside the right post.

Buffalo State remained hemmed in its end for much of the rest of the second stanza, but a final push produced the deciding goal.  Chapple took a pass from Allen deep in the box and blasted a shot in tight quarters that the Lakers' keeper could not handle.  Chapple then gathered her own rebound and made no mistake.

Buffalo State finished with 19 fouls, compared to 11 by Oswego, and the Lakers held a 10-7 edge in shots.

Freshman Nicole Torres (Wantagh/MacArthur) earned the win for Buffalo State, making three saves in the complete game effort.

Buffalo State will next make the trip to the "North Country" to face Potsdam and Plattsburgh on Friday and Saturday respectively.
