Plattsburgh Defeats Women’s Soccer, 4-1

PLATTSBURGH, NY— Buffalo State (6-7-2/3-4) conceded a pair of early goals and could never climb back in the game, dropping a 4-1 decision at Plattsburgh (7-6-1/3-3-1) today in a SUNYAC game.

The Cardinals opened the scoring just 2:13 into the game and then doubled their lead on a set piece off a corner kick just over two minutes later.  Plattsburgh pushed the advantage to 3-0 in the 63rd minute, before the Bengals broke the shutout in the 83rd minute.  Micky Tinnerman (Salamanca/Salamanca) took a through ball from Meghan Allen (Big Flats/Corning East) and sent it inside the far post for her second goal of the season.  Buffalo State was unable to hold the momentum, however, and Plattsburgh concluded the scoring with a free kick from 30 yards that was deflected in in the 87th minute.

Plattsburgh finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots, including 10-4 in the first half.  Nicole Torres (Wantagh/MacArthur) started the game in goal for Buffalo State, making four saves while allowing three goals in 64 minutes.  Jessica McCarey (Middletown/Middletown) came on in relief and finished with one save and a goal against.

Buffalo State is currently tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with Oswego, each with nine points, but the Bengals own the head-to-head tie-breaker and have a game in hand.  Plattsburgh and Fredonia sit just one point ahead of the Bengals in the standings with two games remaining.

Buffalo State will look to get back on track when it hosts New Paltz next Friday at 3 p.m. for another SUNYAC contest.
