FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (12-7) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Frostburg (8-11) in five sets, and then dropped RIT (11-8) in straight sets tonight on the opening day of the Fredonia Classic.
The Bengals outlasted Frostburg in the first match, 27-25, 19-25, 22-25, 25-16 and 15-13. With the win, Buffalo State improved to 15-3 in five-set matches over the past three seasons.
Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) paced the Buffalo State offense with 19 kills, while
Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) had 13 kills and five blocks.
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) added nine kills and three blocks.
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) posted a new career high with 51 assists, and
Rachelle Kelchlin (West Seneca/St. Mary's) posted 22 digs.
After a challenge in the first set against RIT, the Bengals cruised to the three-set win, 26-24, 25-21 and 25-18. Crooks had eight kills and four blocks,
Hannah Renaldo (N. Collins/N. Collins) also had eight kills, and Cecchettini dished out 22 assists.
Buffalo State will finish the Fredonia Classic tomorrow against Pitt-Bradford at 11 a.m. and Hilbert at 3 p.m.
