FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (14-7) cruised to a pair of straight-set victories over Pitt-Bradford (8-16) and Hilbert (2-17) today to complete a perfect weekend and capture first place at the Fredonia Classic.
Buffalo State defeated Pitt-Bradford 25-19 and 25-21 in the first two sets and then slammed the door closed with a 25-13 win in the final set. Buffalo State piled up 41 kills, including a team-best 12 by
Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) to go with six blocks.
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) added nine kills and three blocks, while
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) had 30 assists and 12 digs.
The Bengals ripped Hilbert in the late match, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-13. Buffalo State posted an efficient 22-percent attack percentage, and Crooks led the way with 10 dig, compared to just one error. Pyc added nine kills, and Cecchettini had 20 assists.
Crooks was named the tournament MVP, and Kelchlin was named to the All-Tournament Team
Buffalo State will compete in the second of three rounds of SUNYAC Pool Play next weekend at Brockport. The Bengals will first take on New Paltz at 5 p.m. on Friday.
