BUFFALO, NY – Freshman Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) netted two goals, including the game-winning overtime goal to lead Buffalo State (3-2-1, 3-1-0 ECAC) to a 3-2 conference win over Neumann (0-6-0, 0-4-0 ECAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights were the first to get on the scoreboard, recording a goal with four minutes left to play in the first period.
Buffalo State took advantage of a power play mid-way through the second period and tied the game up. Senior Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) ripped a shot past the Neumann goalie with assists from Viivi Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland/Hameenlinnan Lyseon Lukio) and Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West).
Minutes later, the Bengals struck again to take a 2-1 lead. At 14:37, Carroll earned her first collegiate goal with assists from Vaattovaara and Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West).
Despite being outshot 16-8 in the period, goalie Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) and the Bengal defense managed to keep the Knights from scoring.
The Bengals had good puck control in the third period and looked to have the win as time wound down, but the Knights managed to tie things back up with just 3:50 left in regulation.
Buffalo State came out ready to get the win in overtime. Carroll earned the game-winner and her second goal of the game at 1:52 with assists from Brooke Krantz (Penticton, BC/Penticton) and Goodwin.
Silva earned the win in net, stopping 27 of the 29 shots she faced.
Neumann finished the game with a slight 29-26 advantage in shots. Buffalo State finished the game 1 for 3 on the power play, while the Knights were 0 for 2.
The Bengals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 for a 7 p.m. conference matchup at Chatham.
