Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa.—Freshman Catie Horvatits (Elma, NY/Iroquois) scored her first collegiate goal and Buffalo State (4-2-1/4-1-0) earned its third-consecutive victory, defeating host Chatham (2-4-0/0-3-0), 3-1, tonight in an ECAC West contest.
Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) added her seventh goal of the season, and freshman
Erin Gehen (W. Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) added her second of the season.
The Cougars opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the game, but the Bengals evened the score less than four minutes later when Horvatits tallied her first goal. Neither team scored in the second, before Goodwin and Gehen put the Bengals ahead in the final stanza.
Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West) added a pair of assists and was a plus-3, and
Christine Harris (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) also had a pair of helpers. Both teams finished 0 for 4 on the power play.
Chatham was credited with 27 shots, compared to 19 by the Bengals, but freshman
Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) came up with 26 saves to earn the win between the pipes for the Bengals.
Buffalo State and Chatham will face-off again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
