POTSDAM, NY – Freshman Georgia Kleiner (Pelham, NY/Canterbury School (CT)) tallied her first collegiate goal to give Buffalo State (1-1-1) a 3-2 win in overtime against Potsdam (0-1) on Friday night.
The Bengals were down early in the game after the Bears took advantage on a first period power play, netting a goal at 12:12.
Freshman Brooke Krantz (Penticton, BC/Penticton) also tallied her first collegiate goal to tie things up with 8:11 remaining in the second period.
Potdsam regained the lead seven minutes into the third period, but Buffalo State wasted little time, tying things back up less than a minute later off an unassisted goal from Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake).
Both teams had opportunities to seal the win in regulation, but neither could find the back of the net.
Kleiner came up big for the Bengals in overtime, scoring just 41 seconds into play with assists from Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Krantz.
Buffalo State outshot Potsdam, 45-24, including an 18-9 margin in the third period.
Goalkeeper Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) earned the win and recorded 22 saves.
The Bengals return to action at Potsdam again on Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. matchup.
