Box Score ROCHESTER, NY—Nationally-ranked No. 13 St. John Fisher (5-0) scored eight of the first nine goals and cruised to a 16-5 victory over visiting Buffalo State (1-2) in a non-conference game today at Growney Stadium.
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) led Buffalo State's offense with a goal and two assists.
Ashley Coleman (Central Square/Central Square),
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier),
Kendra Thomas (Painted Post/Corning West) and
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott) also scored for the Bengals.
The Cardinals opened up a 6-1 lead by halftime and then netted the first two goals of the second half to extend the margin. Buffalo State answered with the next two goals to pull back to the five-goal deficit, but a 5-0 run by Fisher put the game away.
Fisher dominated possession with a 19-4 advantage in draw controls that helped produce a 40-11 difference in shots. The Cardinals also maintained a 25-16 edge in ground balls.
Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) went the distance between the pipes for Buffalo State, making 11 saves in her first collegiate action.
Buffalo State will play its home opener against Houghton on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
