Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Buffalo State (2-2) netted the first 11 goals of the game and cruised to the win in its home opener, defeating Houghton (2-3), 17-3, in a non-conference game at Coyer Field.
The Bengals had 10 different players find the back of the net, led by
Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) with four goals and one assist.
Kendra Thomas (Painted Post/Corning West) also had five points on a goal and four assists.
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) had three goals and an assist,
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union Endicott) finished with two goals and an assist and
Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) registered two markers.
Rebecca Galanti (Hamburg/Frontier),
Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego),
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier),
Andrea Folgherait (Oswego/Oswego) and
Aryien Stevens (Lawtons/Lake Shore) all had one goal apiece.
The goals by Saint-Vil, Folgherait, and Stevens were the first of their careers.
Buffalo State led 10-0 at half and never looked back. The Bengals outshot Houghton, 32-19 and held a 27-18 advantage in ground balls. Defensively, Buffalo State caused nine of the Highlanders' 22 turnovers.
Kelsey Hodge (Clarence/Clarence) finished with a team-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers for Buffalo State.
Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) posted a shutout in 30 minutes of play, making five saves, while
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) had seven saves in the second half.
