Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) tallied seven points and Buffalo State (3-2) scored the final four goals of the game to claim an 11-7 non-conference victory over Elmira (2-3) today at Elmira Free Academy.
Martinez led the Bengals with five goals and two assists.
Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego) added a pair of goals and an assist.
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and
Kendra Thomas (Painted Post/Corning West) had a goal and two assists each, and
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) and
Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) also scored.
The Bengals trailed 5-2 early in the second half, but used a 5-0 quickly erase the deficit. Elmira scored the next two goals to even the score at 7-7 with 11 minutes remaining, but the Bengals scored the final four goals of the contest over final 7:32.
Buffalo State outshot Elmira 30-17and had a 28-22 advantage in ground balls. The Bengals also capitalized on 33 Elmira turnovers, although the Bengals also struggled to protect the ball, committing 23 turnovers.
All three Buffalo State goalies played, combining to make a total of five saves.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was credited with the win, making one save and not allowing a goal over the final 11:37.
Buffalo State will next head south and will play at Birmingham-Southern on Monday at 6 p.m.
