Softball Stumbles Late Against North Central, Bounces Back to Beat Union

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (2-4) surrendered 10 runs in the seventh inning to fall 13-5 to North Central (6-2), but responded with a 5-4 victory over Union (3-3) this afternoon at the National Training Center.

Buffalo State took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning against North Central, but the Cardinals scored 10 runs on just three hits in the seventh inning, capitalizing on two errors and six free passes.

Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield), Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) and Chrissy Rennard (Brockport/Brockport) collected two hits apiece for Buffalo State. Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) drew the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) in 6 1/3 innings of work. She had five strikeouts and six walks to go with five hits allowed.

Buffalo State scored one run in five separate innings against Union, and had a 5-2 lead before holding on for the one-run victory. The Bengals capitalized on seven hits and six Union errors. Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Novo continued to swing the hot bat, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.

Alison Novak (Amherst/Williamsville North) earned her first collegiate win in the circle, allowing five hits and three earned runs to go with three strikeouts in five innings. Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) picked up the save, throwing two innings of shutout relief, allowing three hits.

Buffalo State will get another practice day tomorrow before returning to action against Thomas and MIT on Wednesday at 1 and 3 p.m. respectively.
