Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott) had five goals and three assists, and Buffalo State (6-2/1-0) scored 12 second-half goals to post a 17-13 victory over visiting New Paltz (3-2/0-1) in today's SUNYAC opener at Coyer Field. The victory pushed the Bengals' winning streak to five games.
Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego) tallied three goals and an assist, and
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) scored twice to go with a pair of assists.
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier),
Kendra Thomas (Painted Post/Corning West) and
Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) added two goals apiece, and
Andrea Folgherait (Oswego/Oswego) also scored.
Buffalo State scored the first two goals of the game, but New Paltz responded and briefly held a 4-3 lead. The Bengals scored two late goals in the first half and held a 5-4 edge at the intermission. Buffalo State never relinquished the advantage the rest of the way, leading by as many as six before claiming the four-goal win.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was between the pipes for Buffalo State, finishing with two saves. The Bengals outshot the Hawks 38-19 and held a 24-18 advantage in ground balls. Buffalo State also committed just 17 turnovers, compared to 24 by New Paltz.
Kelsey Hodge (Clarence/Clarence) tied a school record with seven ground balls, and freshman
Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) also matched a school mark with five caused turnovers.
The Bengals will visit Brockport for another SUNYAC game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
