Buffalo State Softball Sweeps Fredonia in SUNYAC Doubleheader

Jenna Clarke doubled in the bottom of the seventh, driving in two runs to give the Bengals the 6-5 win in the late game
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (7-5/2-0) opened its conference slate with a pair of victories over visiting Fredonia (2-7/0-2), winning 4-0 and 6-5.

Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener and the Bengals plated four runs on eight hits for the victory. Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) was 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI, two walks and a run scored, and Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.   Kate Brownell (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) added a double and a run scored.

In the late game, Buffalo State rallied from a 5-3 deficit, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the come-from-behind win. Sarah Gorski (Cheektowaga/Depew) was 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Jenna Clarke (Brockport/Brockport) finished 1 for 3, also with a double and a run scored, and two RBIs. Taylor Swiatek (East Aurora/Orchard Park) also doubled for the Bengals. Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) picked up the win in the circle, allowing 4 hits in 4.2 innings of work in relief of Alison Novak (Amherst/Williamsville North).

Buffalo State will play a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow at Allegheny at 3 p.m.
