Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY-- Buffalo State (12-8/6-2) extended its winning streak to four games, picking up a pair of victories against Potsdam (1-13/1-3), as the Bengals defeated the Bears, 7-1 and 6-3, in a conference doubleheader today at the Softball Field.
Buffalo State trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth of the first game, but a leadoff single and back-to-back errors loaded the bases and put the Bengals in position to break the game open.
Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) blasted a three-run home run off the scoreboard, energizing the seven-run inning, maximizing five hits and three Potsdam errors.
Buffalo State totaled just seven hits for the game, with
Joanna Bardak (Amherst/Amherst) being the only Bengal with more than one, going 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) picked up her seventh win of the season, scattering six hits over five innings, and
Alison Novak (Amherst/Williamsville North) pitched the final two innings of no-hit, shutout relief.
In the late game, Buffalo State scored four runs on five hits in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead and never looked back. Bardak was 3 for 3, with a double and three RBIs to pace the Bengals. Novo and
Sarah Gorski (Cheektowaga/Depew) both finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Carly Knight (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter),
Taylor Swiatek (East Aurora/Orchard Park) and Maggard also recorded one hit each for Buffalo State.
Jordan Sarat (Caledonia/Calendonia-Mumford) started in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits over three innings. Novak earned the win, pitching three innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits, while
Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) faced four batters in the top of the seventh to close out the game.
Buffalo State is next scheduled to host a non-conference twin bill against Penn State Behrend on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
