BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State softball will join the fight against cancer by hosting "StrikeOut Cancer" day this Friday when it hosts Cortland in a SUNYAC doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
 
The "StrikeOut Cancer" initiative unites the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to help raise awareness and funds to assist in the battle against cancer. Since starting the StrikeOut Cancer program over 10 years ago, NFCA membership teams have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer.  In addition to fundraised dollars, this initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research.
 
Pink balloons and T-shirts will be available for purchase at the game and fans will also have the option to make pledges or donations in a variety of ways to support the cause.  All proceeds will be donated to the Alex Hollander Education Fund.  Alex is the son of former Buffalo State softball coach of 24 years Sandy Hollander lost her six-year battle with cancer during the 2012 season.

Patty Coneys, breast cancer survivor and mother of Buffalo State junior pitcher Maddie Coneys, will throw out the ceremonial opening pitch.
 
All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink to show their support in the fight against cancer.
