Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY-- Cortland (18-12/9-3) swept Buffalo State (12-10/6-4) in a SUNYAC doubleheader, winning 5-3 in the first game and 5-2 in the nightcap at the Softball Field.
 
Buffalo State outhit Cortland 7-5 in the first game, but could not overcome an early deficit caused by three unearned runs in the top of the first inning.  The Red Dragons pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning, before the Bengals got on the board with a sacrifice fly by Kate Brownell (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) that scored Carly Knight (Lewiston/Lew-Port) in the bottom of the fifth.  After another unearned run by Cortland in the sixth, Buffalo State rallied to plate two runs in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback.
 
Brownell finished 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Knight was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored.  Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) took the loss, throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run.  Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, no-hit relief.
 
In the late game, Cortland scored three runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead and held on for the win. Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga/Depew) and Joanna Bardak (Amherst/Amherst) both finished 1 for 3 with a run scored, while Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) also went 1 for 3. Jordan Sarat (Caledonia/Caledonioa-Mumford) had the loss in the circle, allowing four runs on three hits in three innings of work.
 
Buffalo State wore pink uniforms today as part of "StrikeOut Cancer" Day, an initiative that unites the National Fastpitch Coaches Association with the American Cancer Society to raise money and awareness to assist in the battle against cancer. 
 
Buffalo State will host its final regular season home games of the season tomorrow against Oswego beginning at noon.
