Box Score OSWEGO, NY— Oswego (6-3/1-2) netted the game-winning goal with just 1:19 left to play and defeated Buffalo State (7-4/2-2), 6-5, in a muddy SUNYAC contest today at South Athletic Field.
Kendra Thomas (Painted Post/Corning West) led the Bengals with two goals and an assist.
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union Endicott) registered a goal and one assist, while
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) and
Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) also scored for the Bengals.
Andrea Folgherait (Oswego/Oswego) added two helpers.
Buffalo State scored the first two goals of the game, but the Lakers responded with a pair of their own and the teams took a 2-2 tie into halftime. Oswego had a 4-2 lead less than nine minutes into the second half, before Wilensky's goal brought the Bengals back to within one. The Lakers would again go up by two goals, but Buffalo State rallied and tied the game at the 8:35 mark. Oswego scored the game winner after being awarded a free-position attempt.
The Lakers outshot Buffalo State, 28-10, and held a 25-20 advantage in ground balls. The Bengals committed 25 turnovers, compared to 16 by Oswego.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) had a season-high 15 saves in the loss for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State returns to action Saturday, as the Bengals travel to No. 2-ranked Cortland for a 12:30 p.m. game.
