WESTERVILLE, Ohio—Buffalo State (0-2) opened its season with a pair of losses tonight, falling in four sets to Case Western (1-0), before dropping a straight sets match against host and No. 23-ranked Otterbein (1-1) in the first day of the Capital-Otterbein Classic.
Case Western defeated Buffalo State in the opening match 25-23, 24-26, 25-13 and 25-21. Senior
Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) paced Buffalo State's offense with 13 kills, and
Delaney Laper (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) and
Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) had eight kills apiece. Laper also had a team-best 19 digs.
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) dished out 35 assists.
Buffalo State battled in the late match, but nationally-ranked Otterbein had too much fire power, ousting the Bengals 25-21, 25-19 and 26-14.
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) had six kills to lead Buffalo State. Cecchettini had 17 assists, and
Rachelle Kelchlin (West Seneca/St. Mary's) had a team-best 15 digs.
Buffalo State will make the short trip to Columbus tomorrow for the second half of the tourney against Baldwin Wallace at 9:30 a.m. and then will face host Capital at noon.
