COLUMBUS, Ohio—Buffalo State (2-2) rebounded to even its record with a pair of grueling five-set wins today, defeating Baldwin-Wallace (1-2) and host Capital (1-3), to close out the Otterbein/Capital Invitational.
The Bengals came out on top of a back-and-forth battle with Baldwin-Wallace in the morning match, 25-20, 21-25, 25-12, 21-25 and 15-9.
Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) and
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) paced Buffalo State's offense with 14 and 12 kills respectively.
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) had 27 assists and 10 digs, while
Delaney Laper (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) added 15 digs and two blocks.
In the late match, the Bengals survived a Capital rally to prevail, 26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 15-25 and 15-11. Parente pounded out a match-high 22 kills to go with three blocks to lead Buffalo State. Laper added 10 kills and 22 digs, and Cecchettini had 38 assists and 13 digs.
Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) also had 10 kills and three blocks.
Cecchettini was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Buffalo State will compete at the Nazareth Golden Flyer Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
