Men’s Soccer Blasts D’Youville, 6-0

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (2-5) snapped a five-game skid with a convincing 6-0 victory over visiting D'Youville (0-5-1) in a contest that saw three Bengals net their first collegiate goals today at Coyer Field.

Joe Vucic (East Aurora/East Aurora) scored twice to pace the Bengals, followed by Kegan Lezama's (Milton, ON/Bishop Reding) first tally of the season.  Then the "first-timers" took over with Adonis Martinez (Levittown/Island Trees), Bryan Daigler (Amherst/Sweet Home) and Darryl Potter (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) completing the scoring.

The Bengals controlled the game from the opening whistle, but could not break through in the early going, that included a blast Devonte Black (Pickering, ON/Notre Dame Catholic) that rattled off the cross bar and a 20-yard free kick by Martinez that sailed high.

In the 18th minute, Vucic put Buffalo State on the board taking a pass from Daigler through a pair of defenders and slipped it past the challenging keeper.  Less than four minutes later, the Bengals pushed the lead to 3-0.  Vucic scored his second of the game and seventh of the season in the 20th minute, heading a short cross off a free kick from Francesco Cardillo (Tonawanda/St. Thomas Aquinas (ON)), and then Lezama struck in the 23rd minute, collecting a loose ball off a corner kick before sending it home.

Martinez tallied his first goal as a Bengal on a penalty kick just over five minutes later after being taken down in the box to complete the first half scoring.

Daigler wasted little time opening the second-half scoring, firing a shot through the goalkeeper's legs from 23 yards out with an assist from Barak Benyehuda (Syracuse/Westhill) just 1:46 into the second period.  Potter scored the Bengals' final goal in the 67th minute, after a bounce off a defender gave him an open look from about 15 yards out.

The Bengals played keep-away for the rest of the contest and kept the Spartans from mounting any serious threat.

Buffalo State held a commanding 20-2 advantage in shots, including 15-1 in the opening 45 minutes.  Hunter Hein (E. Amherst/Clarence) needed only to make one save for the shutout in goal.

D'Youville was assessed 16 fouls, compared to just three committed by Buffalo State.

Buffalo State will open conference play next Friday when it welcomes Brockport to Coyer Field for a 4 p.m. start.
