BUFFALO, NY—Brockport (5-0-3/1-0) netted a pair of late goals to clinch a 3-0 victory over host Buffalo State (2-6/0-1) in today's SUNYAC season-opener at Coyer Field.
Paul Altobelli opened the scoring in the 22nd minute for Brockport when his header redirected a Collin Goettel free kick inside the right post.
The Bengals looked to get the equalizer in the 27th minute when
Tristan Myers (Webster/Webster Thomas) fed
Joe Vucic (East Aurora/East Aurora) on a 2-on-1, but Vucic's shot sailed high. Buffalo State build pressure again six minutes later when Vucic bent a shot off the far right post and then Myers blasted a rebound over the cross bar.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of Golden Eagles heading into the intermission, thanks to a late save by
Hunter Hein (E. Amherst/Clarence) on a heavy shot by Brockport's Charlie Cosentino from 15 yards.
Brockport controlled the ball for much of the second half and Buffalo State was unable to mount an attack to attempt to even the score. The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 82nd minute when a free kick from 60 yards found its way into the box before Brandon Bianchi collected it and chipped it home. Brockport completed the scoring on Altobelli's second goal of the game just over four minutes later on a penalty kick following a hard tackle by the Bengals.
Brockport finished with a 12-9 edge in shots, including 7-3 in the second half. Hein had two saves for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State will host Geneseo tomorrow for another SUNYAC contest at 4 p.m.
