Women’s Volleyball Falls to John Carroll, Zips Past LaRoche

PITTSBURGH—After dropping a four-set match to John Carroll (10-2) to open the day, Buffalo State (7-4) quickly rebounded with a convincing straight-set victory over LaRoche (7-7) this evening at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.
 
John Carroll capitalized on a fast start to post the four-set victory in the day's first match, winning 25-17, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-22.  Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) registered 12 kills to lead the Buffalo State offense.  Britt Hallett-Jonathan (Basom/Akron) had 20 assists, while Rachelle Kelchlin (West Seneca/St. Mary's) tallied a team-high 15 digs.  Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) added 12 assists and 11 digs, and Allie Opera (Lancaster/Lancaster) chipped in 10 digs and three aces.
 
The Bengals cruised past LaRoche, winning 25-11, 25-16 and 25-11.  Parente led the Bengals' attack again as the lone player with double-digit kills with 11 to go with two blocks.  Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) added six kills and three blocks. Hallett-Jonathan and Cecchettini share the setting responsibilities again, dishing out 18 and 15 assists respectively. 
 
Buffalo State will wrap up the Carnegie Mellon Tournament tomorrow with a pair of matches against nationally-ranked No. 5 Mount Union at 10 a.m. and Mary Washington at 2 p.m.
