Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) pounded out 11 kills to lead Buffalo State (9-5) to a straight-sets victory in a non-conference match tonight at the University of Rochester (7-9).
The Bengals edged the Yellowjackets 25-23 in the opening set, and then cruised to the win, taking the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-18.
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) bolstered the Buffalo State attack with six kills and five blocks.
Courtney White (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) added four blocks.
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) and
Britt Hallett-Jonathan (Basom/Akron) continued to share the setting responsibilities with 19 and 11 assists respectively.
Rachelle Kelchlin (West Seneca/St. Mary's) had a team-best 17 digs, and
Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) chipped in nine kills.
Buffalo State will open SUNYAC play this weekend, beginning against Fredonia on Friday at 7 p.m. at Oswego.
