Women’s Soccer Rips Brockport in SUNYAC Opener, 4-1

BROCKPORT, NY—Junior Meghan Allen (Big Flats/Corning East) played in her first game in 23 months and scored a pair of goals to lift Buffalo State (3-3-2/1-0) to a 4-1 victory over host Brockport (5-2/0-1) today in the SUNYAC season-opener.

Allen played two seasons at Buffalo State in 2011 and 2012 before transferring to the University at Buffalo where she competed in rowing.  Allen transferred back to Buffalo State this semester, but needed to wait until this week for a waiver request ruling from the NCAA.

After Kristin Seiferth (Brightwaters/Bay Shore) netted her first goal of the season to open the scoring in the 37th minute, Allen pushed the lead to 2-0 just under five minutes later.  Buffalo State continued to pull away in the second half when Tianna Hatch (Endicott/Elmira Free Academy) knocked in her second goal of the year with an assist from Gina Taggart (Chester/Monroe-Woodbury).  Allen made it 4-0 with her second of the day in the 62nd minute.

Brockport's Caitlin Milana finally put the Golden Eagles on the board in the 65th minute, but the Bengals were able to keep them in check the rest of the way.

Buffalo State finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots, including 9-4 on goal.  The Bengals also had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Jessica McCarey (Middletown/Middletown) made three saves in goal for the victory.

The Bengals have now scored eight goals in the past two games after scoring just three times in the first six games of the season.

Buffalo State will visit Geneseo tomorrow at 1 p.m. for another SUNYAC contest.
