FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (1-3) doubled its number of goals from the first three games, but it just was not enough as it dropped a 3-2 decision to Mt. St. Mary (3-0-1) today in the final day of the Fredonia Classic.
After Mt. St. Mary jumped out to an early 2-0 lead,
Francesco Cardillo (Tonawanda/St. Thomas Aquinas (ON)) netted his first of the season off a corner kick that was deflected in the box in the 26th minute. Mt. St. Mary reclaimed the two-goal lead early in the second half, before
Joe Vucic (East Aurora/East Aurora) tallied his second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 78th minute, but the Bengals could not complete the comeback.
Buffalo State once again was the aggressor for most of the game, but could not produce enough offense, finishing with a 20-10 advantage in shots.
Hunter Hein (E. Amherst/Clarence) made five saves for the Bengals.
Cardillo and
Matt Wong (Coventry, England) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Buffalo State will next host Clarkson for its home opener next Saturday at 3 p.m.
