Women’s Basketball Slips Past Brockport, 53-50

BROCKPORT, NY—Buffalo State (8-5/5-1) posted its fourth-consecutive despite its lowest offensive output of the season, edging host Brockport (2-10/0-5), 53-50, tonight in a SUNYAC game.

Brittnee Perry (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) and Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) each netted 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Niasha Houpe (Rochester/William Floyd) added eight points and 13 rebounds off the bench.

Buffalo State never trailed in the first half and took a 27-22 lead into the break.  The Bengals pushed the lead to as many as 10 in the second half, before Brockport chipped away and led briefly by two on two separate occasions.  Perry hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 44-44, and Houpe hit a layup with 4:07 remaining to give the Bengals a lead they would not relinquish.  Brockport cut a four-point deficit in half with eight seconds to play, but Wallace hit 1 of 2 free throws with four ticks left to complete the scoring.  Brockport attempted a game-tying three at the buzzer, but it was blocked by Perry.

Buffalo State shot just 32-percent from the field and was 0 for 4 from 3-point range.  Brockport shot 41-percent and hit 5 of 20 from long range, but a 50-38 advantage in rebounds for the Bengals proved to be the difference.

Buffalo State will travel to Geneseo tomorrow at 4 p.m. for another SUNYAC contest.
