OSWEGO, NY—Buffalo State (9-7-2/7-4-0) scored first, but dropped a 3-2 decision at Oswego (12-4-1/8-3-1) tonight in an ECAC West contest.
The Bengals opened the scoring just 3:06 into the contest when
Caitie Horvatits (Elma, NY/Iroquois) netted her third of the season with an assist from
Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo/West Seneca West). Penalties would cost the Bengals, however. The Lakers evened the score midway through the opening frame, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play.
Oswego then took the lead early in the second stanza with another power-play goal and then added a late tally to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. The Bengals pulled within one with more than 12 minutes remaining on an unassisted marker by
Christine Harris (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary), but could not notch the equalizer despite 16 shots on goal in the final 20 minutes.
Oswego had a 32-27 edge in shots for the game, and
Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) finished with 29 stops. The Laker were 2 for 4 on the power play, while Buffalo State was 0 for 3.
The Bengals and Lakers will face off in Oswego again tomorrow at 3 p.m.
