BUFFALO, N.Y.— Senior
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) had a team-best 14 kills helping Buffalo State snap its nine game losing streak as the hosts of the Bengal Challenge opened with a 3-1 win over St. Lawrence on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED- A key five-point run towards the end of set one gave the Bengals the momentum to win.
- In the second set, the Saints came within two points, 19-17, but Buffalo State outscored St. Lawrence 6-1 to tally the win and take a 2-0 lead.
- Despite opening up the third set on a quick run, the Bengals could not hold onto the win. St. Lawrence tied the game up at 11 and a five point run helped them take the lead. The Saints closed out the set with the final seven points to cut Buffalo State's lead in half.
- The Bengals got things done in the fourth and final set, outscoring St. Lawrence 10-2 to finish the set and record the overall win.
- Pyc led the offense with 14 kills and five blocks. Delaney Laper (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) and Ashleen Speen (Vestal/Vestal) each added eight kills, while Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) recorded 32 assists.
- Defensively, Rachelle Kelchlin (W. Seneca/St. Mary's) tallied 19 digs and Laper added 11 more.
FOR THE FOES- Lexi Brown led the Saints offense with 14 kills, while Grace Kelly added 11.
- Defensively, Mariah Dignan finished with 31 digs.
UP NEXTBuffalo State will close out the 2015 season on Saturday with the final day of the Bengal Challenge, facing St. John Fisher at 11 a.m. and then Allegheny at 1:30 p.m.
