BUFFALO, NY – After trailing all game, Buffalo State (4-8,2-3 SUNYAC) took a 12-11 lead at 14:22, but Oneonta (5-8,2-2 SUNYAC) managed to close the game on a 5-0 run to finish with the 16-12 win in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Coyer Field. The Bengals also celebrated Senior Day and honored Colleen George (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell), Emery Fleck (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Carol Ann Currado (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango), Rebecca Galanti (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), Kendra Thomas (Painted Post, NY/Corning West), Kaitlyn Gustafson (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell), Meghan Farrell (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) and Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) before the game.
Alanna Herne (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) scored a team-high five goals, while Farrell tallied five points off of three goals and two assists. Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview, NY/Frontier), Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown, NY/Middletown), Christina Krowel (Amsterdam, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Wilensky each added a goal apiece.
Oneonta jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game and remained on top for the rest of the half. Buffalo State brought the Red Dragons lead down to one on three occasions, but could not manage to ties things up. Oneonta headed into halftime with a 6-4 lead.
In the second half, three quick goals from the Bengals in the span of a minute brought Buffalo State to within one goal, 9-8. Minutes later, back-to-back goals from Herne tied the game for the first time. A goal from Krowel gave Buffalo State its first lead of the game with 14:22 left to player. The Red Dragons, however, closed the game out on a 5-0 run to seal the victory.
George recorded the loss in net, making 10 saves.
Buffalo State returns to action on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. SUNYAC matchup against Oswego at home on Coyer Field.
