Oswego Trips Women’s Lacrosse, 15-12

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (4-9/2-4) was unable to hold on to a first-half lead as visiting Oswego (5-8/1-5) left Coyer Field with a 15-12 victory today in a SUNYAC contest.

Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) led Buffalo State with seven points on three goals and four assists.  Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) added three goals and an assist, while Courtney Lowd (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) netted two goals each, and Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Kendra Thomas (Corning/Corning West) each scored once.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early 3-1 lead and led for much of the opening period.  After a four-goal run gave the Lakers an 8-6 lead, the Bengals responded with three-straight goals to take a 9-8 edge into the intermission.  The Lakers opened the second half on a 5-1 run, however, and never relinquished the lead again.  Buffalo State cut the deficit to two with 3:24 remaining, but Oswego added a late insurance marker before running out the clock.

Buffalo State finished with a slight edge in shots (29-28) and ground balls (22-21).  Oswego held the advantage in draw controls at 15-13 and forced 22 Bengal turnovers, while committing 19.  Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) played the complete game in goal for Buffalo State, finishing with eight saves.

Buffalo State will next travel to Fredonia for another SUNYAC game on Tues., April 21.
