BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (4-10/2-5) hung tough against No. 17 Fredonia (13-2/6-1), but the host Blue Devils finally mounted a late run to pull away for an 18-12 victory today in a SUNYAC battle.
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) paced Buffalo State's offense with five goals, while
Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) tallied three goals and three assists.
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott) chipped in a goal and two assists, and
Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake),
Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) and
Courtney Lowd (Smithtown/Smithtown West) added a goal apiece.
Fredonia jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Bengals remained within striking distance, trailing just 8-5 at the intermission. The teams traded goals to open the second half, but Fredonia assembled a 7-0 run to expand an 11-8 margin to an 18-8 advantage. The Bengals scored the final four goals of the game, including completing the scoring with one second remaining.
Fredonia held a 33-17 advantage in shots and a 20-11 edge in draw controls.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) finished with seven saves in goal for the Bengals.

Buffalo State will travel to RIT for a non-conference game tomorrow at 4 p.m. and will close out the regular season on Saturday at home against nationally-ranked Cortland at 1 p.m. Buffalo State can clinch a playoff berth on Saturday with either a victory over Cortland or a Potsdam loss against Fredonia.
