ROCHESTER, NY—Buffalo State (4-11) played to a draw at halftime, but RIT (7-8) outscored the visiting Bengals 6-2 in the second half to pull away for a 14-10 non-conference victory today.
Alanna Herne's (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) five points led Buffalo State's offense as she tallied three goals and two assists, and
Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) netted a pair of goals.
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott),
Courtney Lowd (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and
Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) had a goal and an assist each, and
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) and
Kendra Thomas (Corning/Corning West) also scored for the Bengals.
RIT opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, but the Bengals responded quickly and took a 4-1 lead. The Bengals continued to lead at 5-3, but RIT scored the next three goals and never trailed again. After being deadlocked at 8-8 at the intermission, the Tigers scored the first three goals of the second half and held the advantage the rest of the way, surrendering just two goals over the final 36 minutes, 31 seconds.
Buffalo State outshot the Tigers, 27-26, but 13 saves by RIT proved to be the difference. The Bengals also had a 15-11 edge in draw controls and forced 19 turnovers, while committing just 16.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) played between the pipes for the Bengals, making eight saves.
Buffalo State will conclude its regular season at home against nationally-ranked Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m.
