Softball Plates 18 Runs in Two-Game Sweep of Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – Buffalo State (11-10, 6-4 SUNYAC) used 18 runs on 24 hits to roll past Oswego (3-11, 1-7 SUNYAC) in two five-inning games, 10-2 and 8-0, during a SUNYAC doubleheader at Oswego on Sunday afternoon.

Stephanie Novo (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) and Kara Stein (Amherst, NY/Amherst) powered the Bengal offense in game one, both finishing 3 for 3 from the plate. Stein added three RBI's, while Novo tallied three runs and one RBI. Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga), Joanna Bardak (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Kate Brownell (Batavia, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) were each 2 for 3 from the plate.

Maddie Coneys' (Clifton Park, NY/Catholic Central) earned her third win of the season in the circle. The senior pitched all five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Bengals jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Four more hits in the second, pushed Buffalo State's lead to six. The Lakers took advantage of two Bengal errors in the bottom of the second, but would not tally another run for the rest of the day. Two runs in the top of the fourth and another two in the fifth, along with strong defense in the final inning helped Buffalo State seal the 10-2 victory.

Taylor Swiatek (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park) led the Buffalo State offense in the late game, finishing 2 for 2 with three runs. Bardak tallied two runs and was 2 for 3 from the plate, while Alexis Haley (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) also finished 2 for 3 from the plate and added one run and one RBI.

Alison Novak (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) earned her third win in the circle, pitching four innings with four hits, zero runs and one strikeout. Haley came in to relieve in the fifth inning and kept the Lakers scoreless, allowing just one hit.

Once again, the Bengals jumped out to a quick lead. Buffalo State took advantage of five Oswego defensive errors to score three runs in the first inning. A big four-run inning in the top of the fifth helped the Bengals secure another five inning win to complete the sweep.

Buffalo State is next scheduled to host Penn State Behrend in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
