Women’s Soccer Falls at Farmingdale State, 3-1

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.— Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) netted her first goal as a Bengal, but the host Rams scored twice in the second half and handed visiting Buffalo State a 3-1 loss today in the first day of the Farmingdale State Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Rams opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game, Smith tallied her first goal in a Buffalo State uniform with a shot from 20 yards out. 
  • Farmingdale added goals in the 64th and 86th minutes to claim the victory.
  • The Rams outshot Buffalo State 16-6 for the game, allowing just three Bengals' shot attempts each half.
  • Jessica McCarey (Middletown/Middletown) allowed two goals to goa with three saves in 71 minutes, before being relieved by Erica Knudsen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) who made two saves and allowed one goal.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Ashley Guerrero opened the scoring early in the game, and Ashlee Thompson and Taylor Howard scored second-half goals to give the Rams the win.
  • Breanna Blair played 62 minutes in goal, surrendering one goal with one save, while Karla Gomes needed to make just one save over the final 27 minutes.

Buffalo State will travel wrap up the Farmingdale State Invitational tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. against Western Connecticut State.
