Men’s Hockey Earns Draw with Elmira, 2-2

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Marcus Michalski (Woodstock, ON/St. Mary's Catholic) netted a power-play goal in the third period to the pull the Bengals even and Buffalo State skated to a 2-2 tie against visiting Elmira in a non-conference game tonight at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Anthony Beaumont (Lester, PA/Interboro) opened the scoring for the Bengals, one-timing a pass from behind the net from Ryan Salkeld (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland) for his seventh goal of the season in the closing minutes of the first period.
  • Elmira took the lead, striking on consecutive shots early in the second period.  The Soaring Eagles evened the score just 1:37 into the frame, and then took the lead with a power-play marker just 1:08 later.
  • Michalski netted his power-play goal 3:44 in the third stanza when his quick point shot sailed through traffic and inside the left post.
  • Buffalo State held a 29-27 edge in shots, but Elmira applied the pressure in overtime, outshooting the Bengals 6-2 in the extra session. 
  • Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) finished with 25 stops for Buffalo State.
  • The Bengals were 1 for 4 with the man-advantage, while Elmira was 1 for 3.
  • Brody Power (Toronto, ON/Upper Canada College), Jonathan Hall (Greenfield, IN/Connections Academy), and Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) also collected assists for Buffalo State.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Carter Shinkaruk scored his 15th goal of the season for the Soaring Eagles, and Jarryd ten Vaanholt also scored.
  • Sandro Aeschlimann finished with 27 stops in goal.
